BryanLGH Medical Center Pharmacy Technician II in United States


The Department of Pharmacy has the responsibility for the implementation and coordination of drug control in the process of providing pharmaceutical care for patients of all ages within the Medical Center. Under the clinical supervision of a Registered Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician II assists pharmacists in pharmaceutical preparation, distribution, and record keeping functions in the delivery of pharmaceutical supplies to patients in accordance to department policies and guidelines. The Pharmacy Technician II is proficient in more than one pharmacy technician staffing area other than unit dose/decentral/delivery staffing, such as Sterile Products -IV Room, Sterile Products -OR Satellite, Narcotic Vault, Medication Reconciliation/Clinical Support, Inventory, or Billing. Proficient in this context means that the technician can staff the shifts associated with those different roles.

*Performs standard Pharmacy Technician I job functions related to Unit Dose medications, automated dispensing, medication drawers, and medication exchanges and deliveries.

  • Operates automated packaging device to unit dose oral medication not available as unit dosed; troubleshoots and repairs device-packaging problems when not functioning properly.

*Operates oral packaging and liquid packaging equipment efficiently.

*Troubleshoots automated dispensing devices for medications on nursing units and in ancillary areas as needed.

*Utilizes software to generate labels for medication products to ensure proper barcode is present for administration by nursing.

*Sets up, operates, and maintains automated dispensing pumps (PN pump and Repeater pumps) for IV preparation following sterile technique and USP 797 guidelines. Operates IV automation preparation systems for IV preparation following sterile technique and USP 797 guidelines.

*Operates pharmacy computer system to fill medication replacement orders and missing medication requests; accurately credits patient medication in pharmacy computer system as appropriate.

*Performs basic billing functions.

*Performs IV preparation including generating IV labels for established time frames; label premixes; prepare and label IV piggybacks, syringe doses, large volume fluids, PCA and epidural doses; prepares single dose chemotherapy per established department guidelines.

*Conducts inventory management including receiving, ordering, invoicing, special ordering and patient-specific medication maintenance; communicates variations in pharmaceutical usage and urgent needs of pharmaceuticals to Pharmacy Manager.

*Accurately and securely removes narcotic medications from the narcotic vault for final check by Pharmacist and delivers to patient care and procedural areas.

  • Assists pharmacists to collect accurate home medication list for assigned patients.

*Adheres to safety and security procedures to promote a safe and secure environment including adherence to state restrictions on Pharmacy Technician functions.


High school diploma or equivalency required. Must be at least 18 years of age. Certification from a state specific or nationally qualified Pharmacy Technician program required. Minimum of one (1) year experience in an institutional pharmacy environment (hospital or health care facility with admitted patients) OR a retail pharmacy environment required. Registration status as a pharmacy technician in the state of Nebraska required.
