Sr Mechanic- Millwright

Provides expertise to the maintenance team to maintain mechanical equipment. Maintains a primary focus within maintenance, but can work with engineers and other such technicians/mechanics/engineers across site to seek best practices for mechanical installations

Principal Responsibilities

  • Overhaul rotating machinery including centrifugal pumps and fans, rotary lobe and progressing cavity pumps, and other precision, custom rotating machinery.

  • Install mechanical seals on rotating equipment, including agitators.

  • Perform in-field rotating equipment installations, including mounting equipment and motors, coupling assembly, and laser alignment

  • Monitor equipment condition and performance.

  • Perform preventative maintenance as assigned, including lubrication routes and oil sampling.

  • Complete maintenance of mechanical equipment to correct any issues identified through the predictive and preventative maintenance program.

  • Use basic root cause failure methodology to conduct first level equipment failure analysis.

  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems using site procedures, vendor maintenance manuals, and trade skills.

  • Perform breakdown maintenance of mechanical equipment, including disassembly, overhaul, and reassembly of complex equipment and components.

  • Make and break piping systems safely and fabricate screwed piping systems and tubing.

  • Assemble components from supplied instructions or drawings and fabricate simple components, assemblies, or machine modifications per engineering designs.

  • Properly use hand tools, fixed and portable power tools, and rigging equipment.

  • Document repair work history per site process.

  • Participate on site improvement teams.

  • Interface with vendors.

  • Assist with the installation and commissioning of capital projects, as required.

  • Perform tasks in support of plant operations as directed by Supervision.

  • Support and adhere to the principles of the American Chemistry Council's Responsible Care® by protecting the environment, health, safety and security of our employees, contractors, carriers, distributors, visitors, customers and neighbors.

  • Be knowledgeable of and follow all Environmental, Health and Safety practices including but not limited to: manage waste movements according to satellite and/or 90-day accumulation requirements, inspect air contaminant sources and institute corrective action for out-of-spec conditions, prevent releases into the sewer and/or stormwater systems by following BMPs (best management practices), activate BASF emergency response procedures in case of spills or other emergencies.

  • Comply with the requirements of the ISO9001:2105 Quality Management System.

Education

Required:

High school education and equivalent experience.

A good understanding of working within the rules of safety and environmental policies.

Demonstrated experience overhauling precision rotating machinery including centrifugal pumps (including mag-drive and canned motor) and fans, rotary lobe and progressing cavity pumps, and other similar equipment.

Demonstrated experience in mechanical seal installation.

Demonstrated experience in rotating equipment field installation, including mounting equipment and motors, coupling assembly, and laser alignment.

Able to work at heights and able to stand or work in tight spaces for extended periods.

Able to medically qualify and pass a fit test for supplied air and cartridge respirators.

Able to enter confined spaces for equipment repairs while wearing required PPE.

Willing to work day shift or rotating shift schedules.

Willing to work overtime to meet production demands and cover vacations.

Good oral and written communication skills.

Good computer skills.

Preferred:

Experience troubleshooting and maintaining web handling equipment, filter presses, and mills

Experience rebuilding high speed spray condenser spindles
