Cimarron Mechanical Engineer in New Orleans, Louisiana

Cimarron has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to support one of our countryandrsquo;s primary NASA exploration programs to take astronauts outside of lower earth orbit with capabilities to transport humans to Mars. This position is expected to last approximately 8 months with the possibility of extension.Key Duties:Perform integrated structural analysis of structures, mechanisms, thermal protection systems, environmental control and life support systems, and propulsion high pressure gas/fluid tubing and components. Perform analysis using a combination of hand calculations and finite element techniques such as NASTRAN, Femap, etc per Lockheed Martin standard procedures and processes. Create Stress Analysis Models of Orion Flight Structures, Mechanisms or Components and incorporate in to existing Orion system finite element models. Modify existing Orion finite element models as necessary to perform stress evaluations. Support stress analysis assessments to rapidly guide design maturation. Perform preliminary and final analyses, part sizing, fatigue/fracture assessment, drawing coordination and sign-off, test support and correlation, analyses presentations, and documentation of analyses for deliverable stress and fracture reports. Derive and apply load cases and develop resulting stress analysis. Link models and execute analysis on subsystem and system level elements. Iterative analysis with design to achieve high performance/ low mass designs. Perform Mass opportunity assessments and support long lead hardware implementation. Models shall meet modeling standards established on the Orion Program. Support development, acceptance and/or qualification level structural testing. Perform finite element correlation to test data.Required Skills, Experience, and Education:Due to facility security requirements, only US Citizens are eligible for consideration at this time.Mechanical engineer with experience performing stress analysis on spacecraft or aircraft structures. Experience performing fracture and/or fatigue analysis. Proficient in FEMAP and Nastran. Ability to travel (one a month, for one week) to support testing and/or for meetings to aid in proper communication between the engineers and management.Bachelorandrsquo;s Degree.Desired Skills, Experience, and Education:Experience with Orion or Human Rated Spacecraft Structures. In addition, experience with the following: analyzing flight mechanisms, analysis of composite material systems, NASGRO and structural testing.
