Chemours Maintenance Mechanic in Memphis, Tennessee

Chemours currently has an opening for a Maintenance Mechanic at our Memphis facility. The site is located 10 miles north of downtown Memphis.

The Memphis Plant Maintenance Mechanic accomplishes, with a minimum of supervision, a wide variety of maintenance assignments. This is a day shift position during hours that will accommodate full interface time with business unit maintenance and planning and scheduling (currently 7:45am to 4:15 pm). The employee must be able to work overtime, ascend and descend multiple flights of stairs, wear industrial safety equipment; hard hat, gloves (both leather and chemical), hearing protection, FR clothing, steel toed shoes, safety glasses, goggles, respirators, chemical suit, lift 50 lbs., stand on his/her feet for extended periods of time and be physically flexible including bending, rotating, kneeling.

Responsibilities include:

  • Safely maintain all plant equipment, such as valves, pumps, agitators, fans, conveyors, pipework etc. per oral and written instructions

  • Assist in the implementation and improvement of effective preventive maintenance programs for all equipment, performing scheduled maintenance on facilities and production equipment as required.

  • Interpret single line diagrams, piping schematics and mechanical drawings

  • Troubleshoot and dismantle defective machines/equipment and installs new or repaired equipment or parts.

  • Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears and other parts of machinery.

  • Safely perform work outdoors during all types of weather conditions

  • Model appropriate behavior for: Safety Health Environment/Project Safety Management and Ethics and Core Values

  • Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations

  • Ability to work flexible schedules including an on-call schedule, evenings and weekends as needed

  • Must have demonstrated human relations ability to show teamwork and resolving problems together; ability to develop effective working relationships with outside vendors, contractors and customers as well as internal personnel.

Other general maintenance work as needed

  • Audit work for completeness and quality.

  • Enter information in SAP to manage and complete Maintenance Work Orders

  • Experience with MS Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.)

  • Communicate closely with Production Supervisor, and Maintenance Coordinator

  • Work closely with Technical Engineers and Area Supervisor on Tasks and Projects

  • Participate in Mechanical Reliability Team & Improvement Efforts

  • Communicate status of equipment repairs / equipment issues to team (daily)

  • Manage completion of Pre-Startup reviews maintenance punch list items

Proficiency in the use of the following computer applications

  • LOTUS Notes/LOTUS CAR system

  • Microsoft Word/Excel

  • SAP


/In order to be considered for this role you must possess:/

  • Associates Degree, Journeyman’s License, NCCER certification or successfully completed vocational-tech program directly related to Mechanical Maintenance and Installation. Adequate relevant field experience may be considered.

  • 3 to 5 years’ minimum experience in the field of Industrial Mechanical Maintenance and/or Millwright, Pipefitter, Boilermaker experience

  • Must be able to lift to 50 pounds frequently without accommodation

  • Must have excellent manual dexterity and visual acuity and can stand, walk, stoop, bend, kneel, crawl, reach overhead, and climb stairs

  • Must be able to wear required PPE (personal protective equipment) such as a Level A suit, full face respirator, SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus), safety glasses, steel toes, Tyvek, hearing protection and gloves

  • Must have previous experience with manufacturing equipment, such as, pumps, valves, filters, conveyors, etc.

Applicant must successfully complete a validated aptitude test used in our hiring process and a skills assessment during the interview process.

This is a 24/7 facility and will require the ability to work weekends and on-call as needed.
