Town of Hillsborough Utility Mechanic (Trainee, I, II, or III) in Hillsborough, North Carolina

The Town of Hillsborough is seeking a utility mechanic to perform unskilled to skilled work in the maintenance and repair of specialized machinery and equipment in a wastewater collection system.Duties include, but are not limited to:Installs and repairs mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment; makes minor repairs to electrical/electronic equipment; recommends needed major repairs; makes plumbing repairs.Designs parts, equipment, and trailers; welds and fabricates parts for lift station and other town facilities and equipment.Installs water lines, makes water taps, hydrants, meter box, blow offs, and valves for water distribution.Installs sewer taps, mains, manholes, core manholes, cleaning and routing sewer lines and camera sewer lines.Maintains water/sewer pump stations and generators; performs preventive maintenance on plant equipment; inspects safety equipment.Calibrates measuring and monitoring devices; troubleshoots and repairs instruments.Procures parts and equipment needed for repairs, or obtains quotes for major repairs.Locates water and sewer lines.Works with contractors.Repair water and sewer lines and hydrants.Serves on call for emergencies at all times.Education and Experience:Requires a high school diploma or GED (vocational/technical degree preferred) and one year of experience in water and sewer line repair, equipment operation and maintenance, and/or welding; or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.Licensure, Certification, and Specialized Training:NC Driver's LicenseMust obtain CDL Class A with tank endorsement within one year of hireApplicants with less than one year of related experience will be considered for a trainee appointment. The trainee salary will be $32,257 and will increase to $33,870 (minimum of the salary range) when the required experience is achieved.Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment.Must be able to exert up to 150 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 75 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of up to 100 pounds.Work involves frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, and balancing.Supplemental Information:Position classification (Trainee, Level I, II, or III) and starting salary is dependent upon the candidate's certification level, qualifications, and experience.
