Weld County Government Engineer Technician I - Inspections in Greeley, Colorado

Days and hours will vary, Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm, paid monthly.Requirements: High school Diploma or GED. One year experience in a civil construction or engineering workenvironment. Post high school education may be substituted for work experience withextensive training in a specialty field OR any equivalent combination ofexperience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills,and abilities. Have valid Colorado driver's license. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must have a demonstrated proficiency in three of the following areas:Use and application of County policy, CDOT Specifications for Road andBridge Construction, AASHTO, and any other applicable reference manual asa source for regulations to assignments and county service issues. Ability to read construction plans and provide infrastructure managementsupport Geotechnical testing and materials knowledge All phases of construction inspection including, but not limited tosoils, asphalt, concrete, underground and above ground utilities andtraffic control and surface maintenance Applied general knowledge of computer applications including spreadsheetsand word processing. Contract and construction document interpretation. Customer service for Right-Of-Way Use and Road Use permitting functionsconsistent with County Code. Coordination with other Public Works Divisions, County Departments. A post offer screen (physical ability/drug testing) is a requirementof being hired for the position. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals,technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to efficientlyand concisely verbally communicate, write reports, businesscorrespondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively presentinformation to management, public groups, and/or boards. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratio, andproportions to practical situations. Surveying requires demonstratedknowledge of coordinate geometry and mathematical understanding ofhorizontal and vertical curves. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concretevariables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Abilityto interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written and oral form.Duties: Perform as an entry level construction inspector. Assignments may include but are not limited to the application/interpretation of engineering techniques for design, testing and maintenanceof permitting and inspection. Perform specialized work of substantial variety and complexity,including processing permits and construction inspection. Technical adequacy of work is reviewed upon completion. Non-routine workmay be reviewed in process by supervisor. Assist with assignments requiring independent and individual contribution. Will have complete responsibility for valuable equipment and material. Provide customer service for Right-Of-Way Use and Road Use permittingfunctions consistent with County Code. Assignment may include the application of business decision makingrelated to construction documents, agreements, design, testing,permitting, and maintenance.
