This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART)position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. In addition, ARTs are required to maintain their active membership in the AF Reserve unit where assigned. ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month.

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) to perform both on and off ordnance equipment maintenance and to train reservists in the accomplishment of tasks set forth herein.

This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. Must meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Must meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. The incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties; however, the incumbent may also be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30% of total responsibilities. Work schedules will be aligned to allow the individual to function fully on unit training assembly (UTA) weekends.

  • Sets up and operates software controlled automatic test equipment (ATE) to test and troubleshoot complex electronic component of missile and ordnance systems.
  • Receives stores, handles, and transports ammunition, rockets, unguided and guided weapons and countermeasures, demolition material, and other types of conventional ordnance.
  • Complies with all federal, DoD, USAF, state and local regulations concerning hazardous material and waste including all explosive items.
  • Plans and conducts training of reservists and other employees.
  • Performs and certifies, munitions, missile, armament, and support equipment serviceability inspection duties.
  • Provides proper allocation, control, care and use of ordnance and related equipment to customers.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: * Installs, modifies, overhauls, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs a complete missile and ordnance systems including support and test equipment consisting of numerous complex integrated components. * Sets up and operates software controlled automatic test equipment (ATE) to test and troubleshoot complex electronic component of missile and ordnance systems. * Receives stores, handles, and transports ammunition, rockets, unguided and guided weapons and countermeasures, demolition material, and other types of conventional ordnance. * Complies with all federal, DoD, USAF, state and local regulations concerning hazardous material and waste including all explosive items. * Plans and conducts training of reservists and other employees. * Performs and certifies, munitions, missile, armament, and support equipment serviceability inspection duties. * Provides proper allocation, control, care and use of ordnance and related equipment to customers. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work requires frequent standing, bending, stooping, climbing, stretching, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions and in hard to reach places. May occasionally work in a sitting position while making repairs at a workbench or operating test stands and consoles. The work requires lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying various sizes and shapes of components and parts weighting up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is normally performed in inside shop areas that are well heated and ventilated, with occasional outside work in areas that may be subject to the employee prevailing weather conditions, noise, slippery or uneven surfaces, and work in confined areas. There is frequent exposure to cuts, bruises, shocks, burns and injury from possible ruptured lines or component failure during high pressure testing. Must occasionally wear face masks and protective clothing when there is a possibility of exposure to toxic fuels and acids may be required to work on close proximity to explosive components and devices.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are eligible for 15 days active duty tour each year for which military leave is granted with full civilian pay. Air Reserve units and members; are subject to immediate call to active duty in mobilization to meet a national emergency. Retired military that have active AF Reserve assignments may apply provided they show assignment (position) on the application. A military service member's statement of service/certification will be accepted IF a terminal leave form or DD214 cannot be provided. The statement/certification should indicate member's separation from active duty is within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement.
