The Engineering Technician I, under general supervision, performs a clearly-defined variety of technical functions of limited complexity that support education in engineering fields. This position will work closing in the areas of electronics, programming and prototyping.
Performs standard laboratory or field experiments with clear instructions
Assembles and operates laboratory and field equipment based on standard operating procedures
Conducts test preparation and simple testing following clearly-defined procedures
Collects and records data. May perform data entry and associated computer activities.
Maintains facility and common areas.
Cleans work area as necessary.
Maintains reference materials, Safety Data forms, Shop safety
Specific Zachry Engineering Education Center Duties
Works with Director of the Design Center to facilitate project timelines
Organize Engineering Design
Assist with Electronics, Computer applications
Work with student teams to properly design and build projects
Assist Design Center Manager with equipment maintenance, training
Manage student worker teams
Works within specific labs as a primary technician, secondary technician in all others
Helps manage lab using software and written management tools
Assists with the tool and equipment checkout center
Assists other Engineering Technicians with developmental projects, including coursework, new equipment, and new processes.
Work directly and indirectly with College of Engineering staff and faculty to facilitate college and system projects
High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Two years of related experience.Preferred Experience:
Experience in engineering
Experience in computer programming
Experience in field or bench electronics repair
May be required to work some shift work up to late evening, and some weekends as needed.
